"Zhoghovurd" daily writes: "According to "Zhoghovurd" daily newspaper, the question of electing Davit Ghazinyan, a member of the "Strong Armenia" faction, to the position of the chairman of the National Assembly's Standing Committee on Territorial Management and Infrastructure issues was discussed very hotly yesterday in the ruling "Civil Agreement" faction.
According to our official sources, at the initial stage there was no position against Ghazinyan's candidacy among the government deputies, but the situation has changed in recent days.
According to the exclusive information of "Zhoghovurd" daily, the discussions about Ghazinyan's candidacy within the ruling faction became particularly heated after the tough conversation between him and NA Vice President Vahagn Aleksanyan. During the discussions, according to our official sources, Ghazinyan's behavior and the ongoing criminal case against him were also discussed.
According to the information of "Zhoghovurd" daily newspaper, it was discussed within the government that if Ghazinyan is elected as the chairman of the commission, the course of his criminal case may create political and organizational problems, including if the court considers applying a stricter restraining order against him again. According to our government sources, the Prosecutor General of RA may come to the National Assembly "after" him.
Let's remind that the criminal proceedings against Davit Ghazinyan are related to the preparation of alleged election bribery during the 2026 parliamentary elections. According to the anti-corruption committee, Ghazinyan and a number of other persons prepared to give electoral bribes to the voters on the condition that they would vote for the "Strong Armenia" bloc. According to the preliminary investigation, Ghazinyan transferred 1 million 400 thousand drams to A.S. in order to pay an election bribe, but the planned action was not completed.
Within the scope of this case, on June 17, the CEC satisfied the Prosecutor's Office's petitions regarding initiating criminal prosecution against Ghazinyan and agreeing to deprive him of his liberty. On the same day, he was deprived of his immunity, and on June 18, the Anti-Corruption Court made a decision to detain him for two months.
Ghazinyan did not accept the accusation. His defense side announced that they will appeal the detention decision, and Ghazinyan's lawyer Aram Vardevanyan considered the actions of the authorities in the case to have a political connotation.
Later, however, the case did not stop. On July 21, the Prosecutor's Office sent the materials of the criminal proceedings with the approved indictment to the Anti-Corruption Court.
The first court session in the case was held on July 24. The prosecutor requested to replace Ghazinyan's detention with a bail of 1 billion drams, a combination of administrative supervision and a ban on absenteeism.
Thus, against the background of discussions regarding Ghazinyan's candidacy within the government, it is noteworthy that the deputy of "Strong Armenia" continues to be an accused person in the framework of criminal proceedings, and the case is already in court.
According to "Zhoghovurd" sources, this very circumstance has become one of the main arguments for not electing Ghazinyan to the post of commission chairman for a part of the ruling faction.
