The death toll from the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo has exceeded 960, the country's Ministry of Communications and Media said.
"2,423 confirmed cases have been registered, including 734 patients in quarantine or hospitals, 469 have recovered and 967 have died," said a statement published on the ministry's social media page.
Officials estimate the death rate from the virus at 39.9%. On May 17, the World Health Organization declared the Ebola outbreak in Congo and Uganda a global emergency that poses a threat to other countries. The WHO assesses the regional risk of the spread of the virus as high.
