Eating watermelon and melon on the beach can cause dehydration and intestinal obstruction, Olga Saino told TASS.
Pumpkin crops have a diuretic effect, which increases the risk of dehydration in hot weather.
"If you cut a melon or a watermelon, they usually won't be eaten right away; some of the remaining fruits are subject to the proliferation of pathogens, because there are no refrigerators on the beach. It is also important to remember that both watermelon and melon contain fructose and fiber, which can cause intestinal obstruction, which can also lead to dehydration," said the specialist.
She explained that it's best to avoid mayonnaise salads, hard-boiled eggs and custard-filled pastries on the beach, as they spoil quickly in the heat. Saino also warned about salty crackers and snacks, which can also cause dehydration.
