US President Donald Trump stated that Israel's attack on the suburbs of Beirut should not have started on the day when a peace agreement with Iran was supposed to be signed.
"The attack on Beirut this morning should never have happened, especially on such an important day when we are so close to signing a peace agreement with Iran," he wrote on Truth Social on Sunday.
He noted:
"Israel has the right to defend itself against threats, but the attack it responded to was very small and insignificant. no one was harmed, injured or killed, and this should not derail this important process."
Trump said that they are "very close to an agreement that will bring peace to the region, including Lebanon, and all parties must stop the escalation."
"Israel should no longer strike any part of Lebanon, but there should also be no attacks against Israel by any other party, including Hezbollah," Trump said.
He is convinced that "this could be the beginning of a long and wonderful peace".
"Let's not lose this opportunity," concluded the American president.
