SIPRI. Global military spending will reach $2.887 trillion by 2025

According to a new report by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), global military spending will reach $2.887 trillion in 2025, which is 2.9% more than in 2024.

According to the Institute's experts, these costs decreased in the United States, but increased by 14% in Europe and by 8.1% in Asia and Oceania. The three largest military spending countries, the United States, China and Russia, together spent $1.480 trillion, or 51% of the global total.

Military spending has increased for the 11th year in a row. Their share in GDP reached 2.5%, which is the highest level since 2009. Although the annual growth rate of 2.9% was significantly lower than the 9.7% in 2024, this slowdown is largely explained by the decline in spending in this area in the United States, the experts of the institute note. Total spending outside the United States will grow by 9.2% in 2025.

In 2025, the top five were the United States, China, Russia, Germany, and India, which together accounted for 58% of global military spending.
