Despite the sanctions imposed by China, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio will visit China with President Donald Trump, whose visit is expected in the coming weeks, the South China Morning Post (SCMP) reported, citing sources.
According to the publication, Rubio was invited. The newspaper also noted that the secretary of state, who has traditionally taken a hardline stance toward China, "has shown little interest in Beijing's invitations in the past."
In 2020, China imposed sanctions on four US lawmakers, including Rubio, who was not yet secretary of state, in response to the previous US imposition of visa and financial restrictions on several Chinese officials.
