The former mayor of Yerevan, Hayk Marutyan, who announced his participation in the 2026 elections with the "New Power" party in December, held an almost secret congress in the party's office on March 7. It was not covered, no message was spread.
They decided to present it in the near future. "During the congress, the new composition of the party's board was chosen, and the first 30 names of the pre-election list were approved, issues related to the program provisions were also discussed," the party's press officer told us, noting that they have planned an event in the near future, during which they will present the pre-election program.
Marutyan will lead the list, "New Power" will participate alone. Let's remind that Marutyan started to engage in politics in 2018. In September, he was the number one member of the "My Step" alliance of the Yerevan Council of Elders and was elected mayor, but after the war he left the CP, and on December 21, the council of elders expressed no confidence in him.
He accused his former teammates of deviating from the values of the revolution. In 2023, he participated in the Yerevan elections on the list of "National Progress" party. Although the opposition forces together received more votes than the government, Tigran Avinyan became the mayor.
