The authorities of Tehran are preparing to say goodbye to the assassinated supreme leader of Iran, Ali Khamenei, the state television of the Islamic Republic reports.
His funeral will be held at the Imam Khomeini Mosque in Mosalla, one of the city's central districts. The exact start date of the funeral ceremonies is not yet known. Khamenei's funeral was scheduled for March 4 at 10:00 p.m. local time (9:30 p.m. Moscow time) and will last three days.
However, the authorities later decided to postpone the ceremony due to the unprecedented number of people expected to pay their respects to Khamenei. Ali Khamenei was killed on the morning of February 28 in an airstrike on his residence in Tehran by Israel and the United States.
Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC)-affiliated Fars news agency reported on March 3 that the Supreme Leader will be buried in his hometown of Mashhad after funeral ceremonies in the capital.
