The rise in air temperature in recent days has given many people the feeling of spring. In some communities, the intensification of agricultural work is already observed. However, meteorological observations and long-term climate data show that the warming at the end of February does not mean confirmation of a stable spring. Director of Hydrometeorology and Monitoring Center Levon Azizyan wrote about this on his Facebook page.
“What do the statistics show?
According to long-term observations, at the end of February and even in the first ten days of March, it is often recorded:
- short but intense chills
- intrusions of cold currents
- -3...-8°C minimum temperatures in the valley and foothills
At this stage, the atmospheric circulation is still unstable, and warm tropical air masses can be quickly replaced by a cold arctic intrusion.
We advise you to avoid active agricultural work for the time being, early pruning of trees and promotion of germination

P.S. 🇺🇸The American GEFS ensemble forecasting system, which combines the results of 30 separate forecasts, predicts temperatures 1-3 degrees below normal for March 1-6 in a large part of our region. The snow cover accumulated in the mountainous regions of the republic can also contribute to the relatively low temperature increase," he wrote.
