Five people were injured after a train derailed in southwestern Switzerland, Valais police said. Earlier, representatives of law enforcement agencies reported that the accident, which was allegedly caused by an avalanche, occurred at 7:00 a.m. (9:00 a.m. Moscow time) near the Gopenstein station.
"There were 29 people in the train at the time of the accident. According to available information, five people were injured. One was taken to Zion Hospital. Four others were treated by emergency services on the spot," the statement said.
The Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation to find out the exact circumstances of the accident.
