Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni announced that Italy will join the Gaza Peace Council as an observer.
"We received an invitation as an observer, and we consider this a good decision considering the problems with our constitution that prevented us from joining the Peace Council. We will accept this invitation to participate as an observer country," he told reporters in Addis Ababa, where he hosted the second Italy-Africa summit the day before and is attending a session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union.
He clarified that a decision on the level of representation has not been made yet. According to the Il Messaggero newspaper, the Italian Prime Minister can participate in the February 19 meeting of the Peace Council in Washington.
