US Permanent Representative: Washington will soon contribute to the UN budget

The United States will make a contribution to the UN budget in the foreseeable future, after a pause lasting several months. This was stated by Mike Waltz, US Permanent Representative to the United Nations.

In November 2025, Waltz reported that US President Donald Trump's administration had temporarily suspended contributions to the United Nations pending reforms to the organization.

"I definitely expect that the first money transfer will be made very soon," said the American permanent representative in an interview with Reuters. "I don't think the final amount has been decided yet, but it will be done in the next few weeks."

According to the agency, as of the beginning of February, the debt of the United States to the regular budget of the United Nations amounted to about 2.19 billion dollars, which is about 95 percent of the total debt of all member states of the United Nations.

In addition, the debt of the United States in terms of the financing of UN peacekeeping operations reaches about 2.4 billion dollars, and the United States is obliged to pay another 43 million dollars to the budget of the organization's tribunals.
