US President Donald Trump has stated that the customs duties established by him have significantly contributed to the settlement of conflicts by Washington.
"It is impossible to deny that the tariffs I imposed have immeasurably strengthened our national security. This is most clearly seen when it comes to our historical achievements in the field of peace.
In nine months, I have settled eight hot conflicts and wars, and tariffs have played a big role in this, including helping to settle the incredibly dangerous and deadly conflict between India and Pakistan," Trump said in his article published in The Wall Street Journal.
On April 2, 2025, the head of the White House announced the imposition of tariffs on the products of 185 countries and territories. Later, the president changed the tariffs applied to imported goods for a number of countries.
A group of business representatives filed a lawsuit against the US authorities, saying that the tariffs are illegal and harm private companies.
