In 2025, the population of Germany will be 83.5 million people, which is approximately 100 thousand less than the previous year. The decrease of the population was recorded for the first time after the epidemic year of 2020, reports the Federal Statistical Office of Germany, referring to preliminary calculations.
Last year, 640-660 thousand children were born in the country, which is less than the 667 thousand of the previous year. About 1 million people died during the same period. Therefore, the decrease of the natural population was 340-360 thousand people.
Even the country's immigration has slowed. In 2025, the net inflow of population from abroad was 220-260 thousand people. This indicator is the lowest since 2020, when the mobility of the population decreased due to the epidemic.
Population growth due to immigration was 40% less compared to last year (430,000 people last year).
The administration will publish the final data on population dynamics in the summer of this year.
