British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has arrived in Beijing, starting his official visit to the People's Republic of China, Xinhua agency reports.
The visit of the head of the British government will last until January 31. This is the first visit of the British Prime Minister to China in the last eight years.
The program of the visit includes talks with the Chinese leadership to discuss bilateral relations and international issues. As reported in a brochure from the Foreign Ministry of the People's Republic of China on Wednesday, in addition to Beijing, Starmer will also visit Shanghai.
Previously, the official representative of the Foreign Ministry of the People's Republic of China Guo Jiakun said that Beijing expects to "open a new chapter" in relations with London during the visit of the British Prime Minister. The diplomat emphasized that the two countries, as permanent members of the UN Security Council, should maintain communication and strengthen cooperation.
