Wittkoff and Kushner will visit Israel

The special envoy of the US president, Steven Wittkoff, and the son-in-law of the US leader, Jared Kushner, are expected to visit Israel on Saturday to discuss the opening of the Rafah checkpoint on the border between the Gaza Strip and Egypt, reports the Israeli portal Ynet.

Ali Shaas, the head of the technocrats committee that governs the Gaza Strip, announced on Thursday that the Rafah checkpoint will be opened next week. This checkpoint is the only crossing of the enclave that was not controlled by Israel before the start of the war in the Gaza Strip.

It plays an important role in the delivery of humanitarian aid, the evacuation of the wounded and the movement of the civilian population, and is also used by international organizations to import vital goods.
