In its new defense strategy, the Pentagon has recognized Greenland as an important strategic area to which the access of the American armed forces should be ensured.

"We will commit to providing US military and commercial access to key strategic regions, primarily the island of Panama, the American (Mexico) Gulf and Greenland," the document says.

The strategy also criticizes the policies of previous administrations in these and other issues.
