France detained a Russian oil tanker

The prosecutor's office in Marseille, France, has launched an investigation into the Grinch oil tanker, which, according to the French authorities, is involved in violating international sanctions by transporting oil from Russia, reports France24.

"The oil tanker suspected of belonging to the Russian "shadow fleet" involved in the violation of sanctions will be brought to the French port of Marseille-Fau," the publication wrote.

French security forces boarded an oil tanker that was on its way from Russia's Arctic port of Murmansk to ports between Spain and Morocco. It is expected that the oil tanker will reach the Marseille-Fau port in the south of France on the morning of February 24.

According to the French media, French President Emmanuel Macron announced on January 22 that the French Navy, with the support of allies, stopped a ship "subject to international sanctions" and suspected of flying a false flag.
