Reuters. France has proposed holding NATO exercises in Greenland

France has asked Greenland to hold NATO military exercises, Reuters reports, referring to the Elysée Palace.

The French military is ready to participate in military exercises.

US President Donald Trump has repeatedly stated the need for Greenland to join the United States. Even during his first term, he offered to buy the island, and in March 2025 he expressed confidence that it could be annexed.

Trump also did not exclude the possibility of solving this problem by force. On January 6, 2026, the leaders of France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Spain and Poland expressed full solidarity with Denmark and the people of Greenland in a joint statement.
