A Canadian female tourist narrowly avoided becoming a victim of a shark off the coast of the Turks and Caicos Islands, Rolling Out reports.
The 55-year-old woman was swimming just a few meters from the shore when she noticed a shark nearby. The tourist approached the animal and tried to take a photo with it. In response, the shark attacked the woman and bit her hand, which was holding the camera.
The Canadian's husband, who witnessed the attack, jumped into the water and desperately tried to push the shark away, risking his life. Despite severe injuries, the victim was able to reach the shore with the help of a man. He received injuries on both hands and thigh. Bystanders tried to stop the bleeding with towels until the ambulance arrived. In the end, the woman lost both hands.
