The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine dismissed Denis Shmigal from the post of Minister of Defense, UNIAN reports. 265 members of the parliament voted for his resignation.
He headed the Ministry of Defense for about six months, from July 17, 2025.
On January 3, President Vladimir Zelensky offered Shmigal the positions of First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy.
Parliament also voted to dismiss Mikhail Fedorov from the posts of First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Transformation. 270 members of the parliament supported his dismissal. Fedorov is going to replace Shmigal as the Minister of Defense. Zelensky offered him that position. As the leader of Ukraine explained, Fedorov is "deeply involved in the issues of drones" and has also effectively worked on the digitization of state services and processes.
According to UNIAN, the candidate for the new minister of digital transformation is not yet known.
