Trump will appoint Marco Rubio as the "governor" of Venezuela

A few hours after President Donald Trump stunned the world by announcing US plans to "govern" Venezuela, the South American country found itself in limbo over what that meant and who was running the country, Bloomberg writes.

The kidnapped Venezuelan president, Nicolas Maduro, was on a plane to New York when his vice president, Delsey Rodriguez, who Trump said should work with Washington to "make Venezuela great again," condemned the "brutal kidnapping."

The created confusion was aggravated by the fact that the White House did not elaborate on what the management of an oil-producing country with a population of about 30 million entails.

A US official has announced that Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who has criticized Maduro and his predecessor Hugo Chavez throughout his career, will take over the leadership post.

At the same time, the agency emphasizes that there is currently no clear plan to deploy US troops or administration in Venezuela. However, Trump has made it clear that he pays special attention to the country's oil, declaring that the United States will have a "presence in Venezuela as it relates to oil."

This could mean strengthening the role of the American Chevron corporation, which still continues to work in Venezuela under the conditions of the lifting of sanctions, as well as the involvement of other large American oil companies.
