Trump plans to meet with the mayor-elect of New York, whom he has criticized in the past

US President Donald Trump has announced that on November 21, he will meet at the White House with Zohran Mamdani, the mayor-elect of New York, whom the American leader previously harshly criticized.

The head of the Washington administration told Truth Social on Wednesday that Mamdani "requested a meeting". "We have agreed that this meeting will take place in the [White House] Oval Office on Friday, November 21," Trump added.

Trump previously said Mamdani hoped to meet with him in Washington. New York mayoral elections were held on November 4. Trump urged New Yorkers to vote for Andrew Cuomo, who ran as an independent candidate.

The US leader has also threatened to limit federal funding to New York City if he wins Mamdani, whom he considers a communist. The mayor-elect describes himself as a "democratic socialist".
