On November 19, the Lithuanian government will make a decision on the border regime with Belarus, taking into account the results of the negotiations between the border agencies of the two countries scheduled for November 18. Remijus Motuzas, chairman of the Foreign Policy Committee of the Lithuanian Parliament, announced this on national radio.
"The final decision on the border regime should be awaited at the government meeting to be held on Wednesday," he said.
As the chairman of the commission noted, the results of the so-called technical level negotiations between the representatives of the border guard services of the neighboring states will be decisive. "The conclusions of the technical level negotiations will be decisive," Motuzas said.
According to him, Vilnius tends to open the border earlier than planned on November 30. "Taking into account the created situation, we tend to open the border sooner," said the politician.
On October 29, Lithuania unilaterally closed its border with Belarus for a month, ostensibly to combat aerial cigarette smuggling. In response, Minsk stopped Lithuanian trucks from crossing the border and ordered them to park in paid parking lots. As a result, more than 1,000 Lithuanian trucks remained in Belarus.
