Several Latin American governments consider US military action in the region likely.
They are discussing the possibility of drafting a joint declaration condemning Washington's aggressive actions against Venezuela, the Brazilian UOL news site reported, citing unnamed diplomats in the region. "Amid the fragmentation of Latin America, the weakening of regional institutions, Russian and European concerns over the situation in Ukraine, and China's hesitation to respond to the situation in the region, governments in the region believe that the Trump administration will feel comfortable acting independently," the report states.
Colombia considers it "likely" to repeat targeted strikes against Iran, this time with aerial bombardment of drug-controlled areas, including to justify the announcement of an anti-narcotics operation in the Western Hemisphere.
"There is a similar perception in the diplomacy of other countries of the region," UOL writes.
