Trump promised to help Thailand advance the peace process with Cambodia

In a phone call with Thai Prime Minister Anuthin Chanwirakun, US President Donald Trump pledged to help the kingdom advance the peace process with Cambodia amid escalating tensions on the two countries' border. This was announced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, which presented the details of the telephone conversation.

The head of the Thai government emphasized that "Thailand is committed to peace, but Cambodia must bear responsibility" for the escalation of the situation in the border zone of the two countries.

President Trump expressed his understanding and promised to help Thailand discuss this issue with Cambodia. He emphasized that the United States and Malaysia are ready to support both sides and help them advance the peace process.

He does not intend to interfere in the settlement of problems arising on the basis of existing bilateral mechanisms between the two countries," the statement said, adding that Chanwirakun, in turn, noted that "in the current situation, Thailand should reserve the right to take necessary actions to protect its sovereignty."
