The spokesperson of the Chinese Embassy in Washington, Liu Pengyu, stated that China is ready to deepen military cooperation with the United States on an equal basis, Politico reports, referring to the interview.
"China is ready to expand existing official direct telephone communication channels in the field of defense to include high-level strategic communications, political negotiations and positive interaction between military parties."
Liu said that any new relationship should be "based on equality and respect", the publication writes.
The diplomat noted that the US should also respect its commitment to "not try to restrain China or provoke a conflict".
