China has stated that it is keeping its nuclear arsenal at a minimum level

China maintains its nuclear arsenal at the minimum level necessary to ensure national security, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lin Jiang said at a briefing on Thursday, answering a question from "RIA Novosti".

"China firmly adheres to the path of peaceful development and the defensive nature of its national defense policy. China always maintains its nuclear forces at the minimum level necessary for national security," the diplomat said in response to "RIA
Novosti's request to comment on the joint statement of G7 foreign ministers.

Earlier, G7 foreign ministers issued a joint statement expressing concern over China's growing military power and rapid expansion of its nuclear arsenal, calling on Beijing to demonstrate its commitment to stability through greater transparency.
