The doctor revealed the main risk factor of colon cancer in young people

The sedentary lifestyle is the main factor of increasing cases of colon cancer among people under 50, the Associate Professor of the Department of Surgery and Medicine at the University of Saint Luis (USA).

According to the specialist, for decades, colon cancer was considered a disease of the elderly, but it has changed over the past 30 years. From the beginning of the 1990s, the number of cases diagnosed with people aged 25 to 49 has doubled.

Jao stressed that the sedentary lifestyle is the main reason for this trend. However, according to the specialist, even regular exercises do not compensate for the damage created in the long-term sitting.

"Young people now spend more time sitting than ever," said the oncologist.

In addition to the lack of physical activity, the doctor also noted other possible risk factors, an unbalanced, low fiber diet, rapid food and recycled meat, as well as the surplus of sugar carbonated beverages. The specialist also mentioned the potential causes of colon cancer, the use of diabetes, the use of alcohol (especially empty stomach) and the unfavorable environmental conditions.
