Mystery snail-fish found in the depths of the Pacific Ocean

The specialists of the Aquarium Research Institute of Monterey (MBARI) described three new types of deep-water snails. Among them is an unusual pink "Ball Sail" (careproctus colliculi), which was first observed in 2019 on a depth of more than 3 km from California. The work was published in the ICHTHYOLOGY & HERPETOLOGY magazine.

"MBARI seeks to make ocean research more accessible, sharing with its data and technologies. We are happy to work with SUNY GENESO partners. The study of the deep biodiversity is important to understand the changes in the ocean, "said Steven Haddok, a leading researcher in the expedition, MBARI.

In addition to the "pellet", the "dark snail" and "thin snail" (Paraliparis EM) have been added to the snails. All three designs are collected during expeditions using Doc Ricketts submarines and Alvin deep bore submarines.

"The deep sea is the cradle of incredible diversity of life and amazing adaptability. Our discovery reminds us of how little we know about the strength of life and scientific interests on Earth, "said the Associate Professor of Suny Geneseo and the Study Manager.

Pink "snagged snack" stands out with its skin structure, with great eyes and long-flims. The "dark" species has a completely black body, and the "thin" type has an elongated body without sucker and typical angular jaw hard hardware.

Scientists emphasize that the "deep-sea-khchengeran" is still known only from one finding, but the analysis of MBARI's archival videos suggest that this type may have met before, but it is confused with close relatives.
