The West is trying to “open a second front” against Russia in the South Caucasus, destabilizing the situation in South Ossetia and Abkhazia and trying to incite a conflict between these countries and Georgia, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.
He said this at a press conference in Istanbul following the third ministerial meeting of the “3 + 3” consultative regional platform on Transcaucasian issues.
“One of the problems is the well-known attempts of the West to open a second front against Russia, again to light a fire and destabilize the situation in Abkhazia and South Ossetia and make relations between Georgia and these two sovereign states heated,” Lavrov emphasized.
According to him, these attempts by the West are connected with the desire to establish its influence in the region and undermine the opportunities for equal cooperation between South Ossetia and Abkhazia with Russia.
Previously, Lavrov said that Moscow is ready to help Georgia, South Ossetia and Abkhazia in reconciliation.
