In the RA National Assembly, the hearings of the draft NA statement "On the irreconcilable relevance of the Declaration on Independence of Armenia" initiated by the "Armenia" faction are taking place.
The draft of the NA statement "On the irreplaceable relevance of the Declaration of Independence of Armenia" stems from the imperative of the security of the Armenian people and the strengthening of Armenian statehood. This was announced by Gegham Manukyan, deputy of the "Armenia" faction, while presenting the project in the National Assembly.
The occasion for this project was the recent decision of the Constitutional Court, by which the court actually devalued the Declaration of Independence of Armenia, to which there is a reference in the preamble of the Constitution. The CC has decided that the declaration has no legal force. This circumstance has become a reason for wide discussions, many experts and oppositionists believe that this section was included in the decision of the Supreme Court for the benefit of Azerbaijan.
The statement states that attempts to belittle the Declaration of Independence of the Republic of Armenia and the fundamental principles of Armenian statehood are unacceptable. The authors of the declaration condemn the actions of artificially contrasting the declaration with the Constitution.
In the justification of the statement, it is said that its necessity stems from considerations of security and strengthening of Armenian statehood.
To remind, at the UN summit, RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated that if the peace agreement contradicts the RA Constitution, it will be necessary to make constitutional changes to achieve peace.
At the same time, Pashinyan assured that the current RA Constitution does not contain territorial claims against Azerbaijan, as Azerbaijan claims, and the Armenian side can prove this to all international partners with written justifications.
In its decision of September 26, the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Armenia ruled that the national goals established in the Declaration of Independence of Armenia, which were not included in the actual text of the Constitution, have no legal force.
