The mayor of Hiroshima protested the US nuclear test

Kazumi Matsui, the mayor of Hiroshima, sent a letter of protest to the US administration, in which he announced that Washington had conducted a subcritical nuclear test.

"It turned out that your country conducted a subcritical nuclear test on the 14th of this month at the Nevada Nuclear Test Training Center.

At the G7 summit in Hiroshima last May, the leaders of the G7 countries, including yours truly, announced the Hiroshima Vision, sending a message to the world that they are committed to building a world free of nuclear weapons. It must be said that the subcritical nuclear test, which your country carried out this time, contradicts this message. Moreover, this test runs counter to the wishes of many abolitionists, including those who suffered atomic bombings, who called for "no one else to have to feel that way" and this cannot be tolerated. On behalf of the atomic bombed city of Hiroshima, we strongly protest and call for a halt to future nuclear testing.

It is your country's responsibility to deeply understand the reality of the atomic bombing caused by a single atomic bomb and the experience of the atomic bomb survivors, to embrace the spirit of Hiroshima's pursuit of peace, to lead the nuclear disarmament effort in the international community, and to achieve a truly nuclear-weapon-free world. We strongly urge you to make reasonable efforts to build a peaceful world," said the Hiroshima mayor's letter of protest.
