Srbuhi Galyan discussed the issue of educational programs for minors serving sentences with Christine Weigand


RA Minister of Justice Srbuhi Galyan received UNICEF Representative in Armenia Christine Vaigand. Both sides positively assessed the effective and reliable cooperation on a daily basis.

The Ministry of Justice reports that the priorities of the Ministry for 2025 were presented, which coincided with the program priorities of UNICEF.

Reference was made to the reforms in the field of juvenile justice, in particular the work of the Interdepartmental Council for Juvenile Justice, as well as the creation and development of Barnahus centers. In this context, the Ministry of Justice has always had the support of UNICEF.

The Minister emphasized the importance of ensuring the proper functioning of Barnahus centers, in particular the effective use of the two existing centers by investigative bodies, as well as the creation of centers in other regions.

He proposed to continue training courses aimed at developing the capacities of psychologists and investigators. It should be recalled that in order to organize measures to ensure child-centered approaches and conditions in the process of organizing the interrogation of child victims and witnesses, a training course “Development of the capacities of specialists - psychologists and investigators for the application of the Barnahus model” was implemented with the support of UNICEF, in which a total of 120 specialists - investigators, prosecutors, qualified psychologists, social workers and other specialists participated.

A proposal was made at the meeting to assist the Ministry in investigative activities the activities of psychologists involved,in developing capacity-building mechanisms.

The importance of implementing joint programs for the education of minors serving sentences in penitentiary institutions was also discussed by the partners.

At the end of the meeting, the importance of UNICEF's support for new justice sector programs was emphasized.
