The Wall Street Journal: Number of Ukrainians, Russians killed, wounded in war reached roughly one million

The number of Ukrainians and Russians killed or wounded in the grinding 2.5-year war has reached roughly one million, according to Ukrainian sources and Western intelligence data, reports The Wall Street Journal (WSJ).According to Ukrainian estimates, which WSJ quotes, the number of casualties in the Armed Forces of Ukraine was 80,000, and the number of injured—400 thousand. But the respective data on the casualties of the Russian army differ. According to some estimates, the number of killed Russian soldiers reaches 200 thousand, and the number of wounded—about 400 thousand. WSJ separately noted that it is difficult to estimate the casualties, as neither side publicizes official data. The WSJ says these large numbers of casualties a problem for Russia, but notes that roughly the same numbers on the Ukrainian side result in far greater damage because Ukraine's population is much smaller. The WSJ added that these huge casualties will have long-term consequences for both countries, which before the start of the war were fighting against population reduction, mainly due to economic and social upheavals.
