Two flares erupt on Sun with two clouds of plasma heading toward Earth

On September 7, 2024, a significant plasma ejection occurred on the visible side of the Sun, which, according to scientists, will "graze" the Earth. This morning, on September 9, the Sun released new large volumes of plasma—directly towards Earth. This was reported by the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy of the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IKI RAN) and the Institute of Solar-Terrestrial Physics of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (ISZF SB RAN).For the evening of Tuesday, September 10, Moscow time, geomagnetic storms of level 1-2 on a 5-point scale are forecasted. There is a 30% chance that auroras will be visible in the European part of the country. The arrival of the solar masses ejected today is expected by midday on September 11. Scientists note that the two solar impacts on Earth may merge into one storm lasting about 24 hours.“It can be observed that the new ejection has a rather unusual, double shape in the images, as if it consists of two clouds. The right cloud seems to be the result of a morning flare on the western edge of the Sun and poses no threat to Earth. The dangers are associated with the central cloud, which is directed precisely towards Earth. We are awaiting further data from ground and space monitoring systems,” the Laboratory reported.
