Erdogan's adviser reaffirmed the possibility of running for the presidency

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will be able to run for the position of head of state for the third time, using the relevant constitutional provision. Mehmet Uchum, the senior adviser of the Turkish leader, expressed a similar opinion.

"According to Article 116/3 of the Constitution, there is an exceptional opportunity to nominate President Erdoğan, his nomination may enter the agenda in the second half of 2027," the advisor wrote to X.

He also denied the existence of a connection between Erdogan's possible nomination and the initiatives currently implemented by the authorities aimed at solving the Kurdish issue, due to which, as some Turkish circles believe, the current president can score points before the elections.

Between these two issues, as Uchum noted, "there cannot be any connection, neither temporal nor substantive."

On December 1, the advisor of the Turkish leader already cited Article 116/3 of the constitution as an example. Then he explained that "if the parliament decides to hold extraordinary elections during the second term of the current president, then the president can be a candidate for the elections again."
