Sri Lankan President Anura Disayanake expressed his desire to join BRICS in a letter addressed to Russian President Vladimir Putin, Pakir Amza, the republic's ambassador to Moscow, told RIA Novosti.
"Sri Lanka has expressed its interest to join the BRICS family through a letter from President Anura Disayanake to President Vladimir Putin. We have also approached other BRICS countries to join as a partner country and are awaiting their positive response," he said.
Dissayanake sent a letter to Putin in October, the ambassador said.
