Protests took place after the burning of the Christmas tree in Damascus

Protests took place in several Christian areas of Damascus on Tuesday, Western media reported.

Protesters took to the streets after a video appeared on the Internet showing a group of people burning a Christmas tree near the central Syrian city of Hama.

The protesters, in particular, demanded to ensure the rights of Christians.

The Western media note that the coming to power of the "Hayat Tahrir al-Sham" group in Syria has caused concern among the religious minorities of the Syrian Arab Republic. However, the leadership of the movement has assured that it will respect all religions.

Additionally, Hayat Tahrir al-Sham said on Tuesday that those burning the Christmas symbol were "not Syrian" and vowed to punish those responsible.

Christians in the Western world celebrate Christmas on the night of December 25th.
