The Philippines is negotiating with the US on the acquisition of missile systems

The authorities of the Philippines are negotiating with the United States on the acquisition of American medium-range missile systems. This was announced by Philippine Army Commander Roy Galido.

"Yes, there are such plans, negotiations are ongoing," ABS-CBN News quoted his words as saying.

"Our concept of comprehensive defense of the archipelago requires that we be able to protect the country's interests, and the country's interests are our exclusive economic zone of 200 nautical miles," he added, noting that the presence of such complexes will help strengthen the country's ability to protect its sovereignty.

Galido also informed that the supply of weapons will last at least two years after the approval of the budget by the US Congress. The Philippine army commander did not specify the exact number and name of the complexes that Manila plans to buy.
