Cyprus has criticized the EU for threatening to delimit Turkey and Syria's EEZ

The authorities in Nicosia are seriously concerned about the lack of protection from Brussels amid a possible threat by the new authorities in Ankara and Damascus to delimit the Exclusive Economic Zones (EEZs) of Turkey and Syria without agreeing the matter with the Republic of Cyprus.

This was announced by the official representative of the Cypriot government with the rank of minister Konstantinos Letimpiotis on the air of the Greek ERT News TV station.

"Cyprus is a member of the EU, the Republic of Cyprus is directly and indirectly affected by what is happening, and unfortunately, the relevant developments in our region have shown us that the EU's reflexes are not what we expected." he said.

Letimpiotis emphasized that the Cypriot authorities have developed a road map for greater EU involvement in shaping the future destiny of Syria and the entire Eastern Mediterranean region precisely because it is urgently needed.

"We believe that practical support from Brussels to the states of the region can be an answer to the gap that could have been created in recent years," he added.
