US President Joe Biden will visit Rome on January 9-12, where he will hold meetings with Pope Francis, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and President Sergio Mattarella, Reuters reports, citing White House spokesperson Karin Jean-Pierre.

Biden's visit will take place on January 20, days before the end of his mandate. The US president plans to hold discussions in Rome on efforts to establish peace in the world and current challenges.

On December 19, Biden also had a telephone conversation with the Pope, expressing gratitude to him for his work in the field of protecting human rights and religious freedom.
