Azerbaijan was unanimously elected a member of the "Islamic Eight".

At the XI summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization in Cairo, Azerbaijan was unanimously elected a member of the "Islamic Eight" (D-8). This is reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of that country.

The "Islamic Eight" (Organization for Economic Cooperation) is an international organization for the development of cooperation between Bangladesh, Egypt, Nigeria, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Pakistan and Turkey. The decision to create the organization was made in November 1996 at the "Cooperation in Development" conference in Istanbul.

The organization was established on June 15, 1997 at the first Islamic G8 summit in Istanbul. Azerbaijan submitted an application to participate in the organization in July 2022.
