SpaceX has launched two communication satellites of the European company SES into orbit

A Falcon 9 rocket has launched two O3b mPOWER communications satellites from European telecommunications operator SES S.A. into orbit, spaceflight developer SpaceX said Wednesday.

"The launch of two O3b mPOWER satellites has been confirmed," the message reads.

Boeing Co.'s O3b mPOWER satellites are designed to provide high-speed Internet access and mobile communications services globally.

SES, registered in Luxembourg, provides services to the commercial sector, government agencies and provides highly secure communications channels for the military. It is the second largest satellite operator in the world.

The launch took place from Launch Complex 39A at the Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida.

In December 2022, a SpaceX rocket launched the first pair of O3b mPOWER satellites into orbit. The current satellites are the seventh and eighth of this type.

Over the next 18 months, five more O3b mPOWER satellites are planned to be launched into 8,000 km high Earth orbit, SES said, bringing the total to 13.

This new generation of satellites will complement the existing constellation of 20 O3b satellites. In terms of bandwidth, the new devices will provide more complete signal coverage for mobile communication and wireless data transmission in many countries around the world.
