Swedish eco-activist Greta Thunberg arrived in Armenia

Swedish environmental activist Greta Thunberg has arrived in Armenia to boycott the COP29 held in Baku.on the pageinformed the Armenian Initiative for Climate Justice.

"We are happy to announce that Greta Thunberg, one of the world's leading voices of environmental activism, has arrived in Armenia. Today, members of the Armenian Initiative for Climate Justice and environmental activists warmly welcomed Greta.

Together they visited the ancient Haghpat Monastery, a valuable Armenian heritage, to share a part of our rich culture with him.Greta is boycotting COP29 because it is being held in Azerbaijan. Instead, he decided to express his solidarity with Armenia," the message said.

Let's remind that earlier Greta told the Georgian media that after Georgia she will come to Armenia to organize a protest action with environmental activists. He also announced that he will not participate in the UN Climate Change COP29 conference in Baku.

According to the activist, holding the conference in Baku is "hypocrisy" and another manifestation of hypocrisy on the part of the United Nations, because Azerbaijan is an authoritarian and oil country that has carried out ethnic cleansing against Armenians from fossil fuels and plans to expand fossil fuel production. It is a slap in the face for all those people who suffer from climate change and the Azerbaijani regime," Thunberg said.

Let's remind that in 2022 in December, a group of Azerbaijani activists posing as environmentalists blocked the only road connecting Artsakh to Armenia, the Lachin Corridor, allegedly in order to "prevent an environmental disaster".
According to the information circulating in the press, one of the demonstrators was, for example, Telman Gasimov, a former Azerbaijani soldier who presents himself as a military expert in the pro-government press.

According to reports, he is a reserve army captain, speaks Armenian. Among them was Ramil Safarov, who axed an Armenian soldier in Hungary.

There were military personnel among dozens of demonstrators, and the symbol of the Turkish nationalist "Grey Wolves" organization, which is banned in several European countries, was also seen in the published videos.
