The United Arab Emirates will sooner or later have to restore relations with Iran after the end of the Middle East conflict, according to Anwar Gargash, the UAE president’s diplomatic adviser. “Relations with Iran remain a central issue not only for the UAE but for all Gulf countries.
Iran remains our neighbor, and at some point we will have to find a way to restore what can be restored. Geography leaves us no choice,” he said during a speech at the Hill Forum, an international forum on Middle East geopolitics, economics and security, in Abu Dhabi.
Gargash stressed that restoring trust between countries is “another issue” because “operational relations” are much easier to establish. He added that restoring trust could take “many years, maybe decades.”
