Philippine authorities have advised recruitment agencies to stop sending Filipino citizens to ships sailing in the Persian Gulf and other war zones, Bloomberg reported, citing sources.
According to the agency, the Ministry of Migrant Workers has made relevant recommendations. The move follows major international labor organizations declaring areas around the Persian Gulf, the Strait of Hormuz and the Gulf of Oman war zones, giving crews additional rights, including the right to refuse port passage, as well as higher wages and increased compensation in the event of death or disability.
Bloomberg noted that the decision of the Philippines will complicate the movement of thousands of seafarers on ships unable to pass through the Strait of Hormuz.
