France is developing several upgrades to its Rafale fighter jets to counter drones. General Jerome Belanger, Chief of Staff of the French Aerospace Forces (VKS), stated this in an interview with Le Journal du Dimanche.
"The goal is to equip the Rafale with less expensive systems. One of the options is to adapt its cannon to hit such targets," he said. The general also did not rule out the use of laser-guided missiles to counter drones.
Currently, the French Aerospace Forces use expensive MICA missiles to neutralize drones. Each such ammunition costs 600,000 euros.
Previously, Le Parisien reported that the French defense industry was developing inexpensive anti-aircraft ammunition for its planes.
