The assassination of Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei is a direct attack by Israel and the United States on the fundamental principles of international law, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said in a letter to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and members of the UN Security Council.
"The United States and the Israeli regime deliberately targeted the highest-ranking official of a sovereign member state of the United Nations, the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ali Khamenei.

Moreover, Araghchi noted that the intentional killing of Iran's top leadership is a gross violation of international law and opens "Pandora's box". "The deliberate targeting of the highest-ranking official of the Islamic Republic of Iran is a gross and unprecedented violation of the most fundamental norms governing relations between states.
Such behavior carelessly opens a dangerous "Pandora's box", undermining the foundations of sovereign equality and the stability of the international system," the Iranian Foreign Minister emphasized.
