International stabilization forces may begin deploying to the Gaza Strip in the coming days and weeks, according to Nikolay Mladenov, the High Representative of the Peace Council for Gaza Affairs. Last week, Stabilization Force Commander Jasper Jeffers explained that Albania, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Morocco and unrecognized Kosovo would contribute troops. Egypt and Jordan will train the police. According to Jeffers, the security of the enclave will eventually be provided by 20,000 soldiers and 12,000 police.
Mladenov had previously said that 2,000 residents of the enclave would volunteer to join the Palestinian Transitional Police Force, but in an interview with the newspaper he noted that now "there are many more people willing to participate." He did not specify the actual number of volunteers. Their training will take place in Egypt.
